Our Cub Leaders

Jamie Cook

Hi, I’m Jamie (a.k.a. Chil), a Cub Leader at the 8th. I have been in the 8th West Wickham since I was six, having been a Beaver, Cub, Scout and Explorer. I’ve been with the Cub Section since 2019, initially as a Young Leader and becoming an Adult Leader when I turned 18, in 2022.

As an Explorer/Network member, I achieved my Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award and my Kings Scout Award – leading to an amazing day at Windsor Castle, with many other Kings and Queens Scouts. Alongside being able to accomplish great achievements, I have made so many friends and even more memories through Scouting.

As a Cub Leader, I thoroughly enjoy being able to play a part, no matter how small, in making a difference in young people’s lives. Being able to create opportunities to take part in activities as well as creating a fun atmosphere is what Scouting is all about, and I’m thrilled to be able to enable that for our Cub Scouts, alongside the rest of the Cubs Team!

Andy Preston (Cub Scout team leader)

I grew up locally, and whilst I hadn’t discovered the 8th, i have many fond memories of my youth in Cubs and Scouts. I first got involved with 8th West Wickham when my oldest son was a Beaver, helping out at meetings. I moved with him to Cubs, where I became a Section Assistant before running a Cub Pack. Its been amazing watching so many young people grow in confidence, and try new things in the 10 years i have been involved.

Scouting has also allowed me to try new things, and i have really enjoyed both paddle sports and target shooting, and am now a qualified instructor in both.

I am a parent to both an Explorer and a Scout, and my wife is part of the Beavers team. I love being outside, DIY, Gardening and spending time with family and friends. I have worked in Engineering, and Transformation with my most recent role being a company director.

Harry Stevenson

Hi, I’m Harry, a.k.a. Ghajini.

Growing up in West Wickham, I have been part of the 8th from Beavers all the way up. Throughout this time I made lots of friends, had many great experiences and learnt a lot! I became a leader to enable the next generation to have these same positive experiences through scouting.

I thoroughly enjoy being outside, and I think it’s important for young people to get outdoors. Scouting is the perfect opportunity for doing so whether it be camps, hikes, expeditions, or anything else!
